Lon Clark, Jr. (Contemporary)

A co-founder of the Woodstock School of Art, Artist Lon Clark first attended the Pratt Institute and the Art Students League, where he studied with Edwin Dickinson, Mercedes Matter and Philip Pearlstein.

During that period he approached Mercedes Matter about founding an art school representing the ideals of depth of study over the fragmented curricula at degree-granting art schools.

While in Woodstock, where he was a co-founder of the Woodstock School of Art, he befriended Philip Guston then moved west to San Francisco where he now resides, paints and acts as Dean of the San Francisco Studio School.

His latest works explore the relationship of abstraction to figuration as a significant preoccupation in visual art.
